Stowe grading
At 18 years old, I am the 'new generation.'
Ever since I can remember, I've been amazed by all kinds of equipment and basically anything that has an engine in it.
Throughout middle school, my obsession was geared toward airplanes and all the associated machinery, but in high school, I was obsessed with the Dirt World.
In 11th grade, I needed a way to fulfill this craving, so I started working for Stowe Grading.
I've now built, repaired, or graded over 150 driveways for homeowners and businesses in Vermont. I love every minute of it.
Now, I am at the University of Michigan, so I can prepare for a future that incorporates some ideas of excavation and earthwork.
I see firsthand that my generation finds this area of work 'weird' and 'unappealing.'
The whole electric vs. diesel situation also causes many to turn a blind eye.
However, when I talk to friends about what is actually involved, they sometimes say, 'I wish I thought of grading driveways.
